A Race Against Blindness: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Overland Build Fundraiser

Over the years, our team here at Rago has witnessed the overwhelmingly generous nature of the off-road and overland community. When someone gets stuck on the trail, everyone is always willing to lend a hand and tow them out of an unnerving situation, whether or not they’re a long time friend or a brand new acquaintance. Traversing difficult and rough terrain can land you in some dangerous or sticky circumstances, but we know we can always fall back on our community to help us recover our rig if we take a turn for the worse on the trail. We believe in the power of community and have witnessed time and time again the profound impact that that we all can make when we come together to serve a common purpose. This is why we have partnered with Doetsch Off-Road to sponsor and help build a truly unique 2024 Land Cruiser to raise money for A Race Against Blindness.

After their son Luke was diagnosed with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS), Kristina and Steve Johnson started A Race Against Blindness to raise awareness and help fund medical research focused on establishing sight-saving treatment and restorative therapy for children affected by BBS, blindness, retinitis pigmentosa, and other low-vision disorders. Their current goal is to raise $1 million by the end of 2024 to support researchers developing these vision-saving treatments, with the goal of accelerating the start of human clinical trials.

As a part of their fundraising efforts, A Race Against Blindness holds raffles on their website for sports cars, adventure vans, overland trucks, and more. Brands from all over the U.S. come together to donate their time and resources to create these dream builds to help raise thousands of dollars for sight-saving research. One of their current give-aways is the 2024 SEMA Overland Land Cruiser that is custom built by Doetsch off-road. We partnered with Doetsch to outfit the Land Cruiser with our expertly designed front bumper, brush guard, front skid plate, full width rear bumper, roof rack, decking panels, exterior rear window molle panels, interior rear molle panel system, and a-pillar light mounts. Additionally, this overland rig also features Black Rhino AWOL 17-inch matte black wheels, Dobinsons’ 3-inch coil-over adjustable lift kit, Freespirit Recreation’s Aspen Light Roof Top Tent, Kammok’s Crosswing Awning, KC HiLites’ full lighting package, Rotopax accessories, and WARN Industries’ EVO 10-S winch. 

The fundraiser for this Land Cruiser went live November 2nd, and ended at 11:59pm on December 31st, 2024. In order to raise visibility and garner more entries, it was featured at SEMA in Las Vegas from November 5th through the 8th. The build was widely praised for its exceptional styling, high-end parts, and overland capabilities by those who saw it live at the convention.
