The Rago Fabrication Shackle Hangers: Why and when should I upgrade?
Navigating your way through your next suspension upgrade can be a little bit tricky. If you want your suspension to perform in the way you had always dreamed, an upgraded shackle hanger is the way to go. The most frequently asked question we get about shackle hangers are why do I need this?
Why do I need to put this on my Tacoma?
To answer is easy, but also kinda complicated at the same time. Simply put, the stock shackle hangers are not cutting the bill when a high performance suspension system is added to the Tacoma.
Why is that? when you upgrade your suspension system, the new leaf springs allow the suspension to droop or (go down) more than stock, putting more strain on the stock hangers. This can cause a multitude of problems, including breaking your shackles, shuttering rear ends, and decreasing your ride performance.
*** Please Note: The ride height is unchanged from the factory stance.
The Rago Fabrication Shackle Hangers are the next best upgrade you can do after upgrading your suspension. With this complete factory replacement, you'll see, performance increases in your suspension cycling, improved geometry, increased droop travel and more. Included with our shackle hangers are the strongest Polyurethane Bushings on the market, allowing your leaf springs to adjust easily and give you the smoothest ride of your life.

Installed these over the weekend along with Bilstein 5100 shocks and Perry bump stops. Haven't driven too much on them yet but can tell the suspension is going to be much improved. The hangers are very beefy and night and day from the OEM hangers.
As other have said, installation has a few challenges. Getting the old hangers off takes time, but not overly difficult with the right tools (metal blade/grinder/drill/air punch). One thing I didn't see mentioned anywhere here or in other videos is that the rear exhaust hanger interferes with the passenger side Rago hanger. I ended up cutting the exhaust hanger off and now the pipe is hanging without rear support. Seems to be ok for now but I plan to either cut my exhaust off behind the muffler or possibly buy a new high clearance exhaust. Another challenge I had was fitting the poly bushing/leaf spring into the hanger once the hanger was installed. It was an incredibly tight fit and I ended up using a combination of clamps and a mallet to coax them into place. On that note, if you are thinking about replacing your leaf springs you might as well do it at the same time as you install the hangers. No point taking it all apart again later. Finally, just be mindful of the different threads. I cross-threaded a couple bolts and nuts before realizing that the long bolts are a fine thread. Felt pretty stupid for not checking, but a trip to Ace got me squared away. As far as torque, I went 89 ft-lbs for pretty much all of the bolts except 73 ft-lbs for the U-bolts.
Now that the job is done I am loving the planted feel in the rear of the truck and can't wait to get it in some more challenging terrain once I get the exhaust dialed in.
I have a 3rd gen Tacoma and I installed Rago bed stiffeners about 3yrs. ago. They are extremely well built and the powder coating looks as good now as when I had installed them (in an open bed through 2 Washington DC winters). I had upgraded my leaf springs with Deavers for more support when I carry cinder blocks, concrete bags and bags of gravel for home improvement projects and doing that made my leaf spring hangers the next weakest link. So based on how pleased I am with my Rago bed stiffeners I ordered their rear leaf spring hangers. The hangers arrived sooner than the lead time that was possible and well packaged. The old hangers (once removed) could be carried together pinched between your thumb and forefinger. When lifting the box containing the Rago hangers I was positive they sent me a free anvil as a bonus gift. These hangers are built like a tank! Beautiful welds and powder coating on all pieces. The only hiccup with the hardware kit ( great quality nuts, bolts and washers) was that the 51/2" shackle bolts were fine thread 1/2x20 and the nuts were coarse thread 1/2x13. I picked up a couple of bolts at Grainger and problem solved. I had to clean up two holes on the hanger kit during install but other than that a smooth installation. I would absolutely purchase these hangers again and will purchase other products from Rago based on my past experience with their products.
Hands down the best design for custom shackle hangers on the market. Everything from the fit to the finish is outstanding.
Highly recommended.
Installed these hangers a month ago. Wanted to get some real world experience with them before writing a review. They have lots of on road mileage combined with plenty of off-road. These hangers are beefy! Construction and quality is great. To sum it all up, these will immediately improve your ride quality. My truck handles completely different. It feels like a new truck! My truck feels stiff and planted going around corners, no more jitters over uneven road, and my suspension feels smoother as the hangers actually allow the leafs to do their job properly. It’s weird to say stiff and smooth in the same sentence but until you try you won’t understand. Having no more wet noodle, flexy, loose end feeling is fantastic! I do have to admit the install is not the greatest. I give it a 4/5 for difficulty. Took me around 6 hours to complete. Make sure you have the right tools and drill bits for this job! Drilling out the factory rivets had to be the hardest part. In the end I’m very happy with the results. It’s well worth the install. The benefits are immediately apparent and it’s well worth the investment!!! @TacoPandaTRD
