Best mount but needs mod as antenna mount

This is an excellent mount. It looks good and is solid. It is easy to install. The problem is that the powder coating is so good that it is difficult to get a good bonding connection with the truck body. It is great that the mounting screws are now stainless unlike the first gen that was black coated screws. Remember that the truck body is half of the antenna and you need to have a good electrical connection with the truck body. In addition, Toyota pained all the parts then assembled the truck body so some panels are not well electrically bonded to each other. The panel that the mount is attached to is probably good enough for 70cm/2m comm but not good enough for HF. To overcome this, I ran a 6ga grounding wire attached from one of the mount screws in the light well and ran it forward-down under the truck and attacked it to the frame under the cab. BTW the main ground 1.5" strap is on the right side of the engine to the frame. I also added a ground strap under the cab to under the bed of the truck. You will need to grind off some paint to get a good connection to the frame and re pain once bonded. Now that you have improved the truck ground, you need to work on the mount ground to the Rago bracket. You can do this two ways. You can ground off the powder coat under the antenna mount hole and around the bracket to truck holes on the mound. You should also remove some paint around the hole you drilled into the truck panel for the mount. Usle a multimeter to check electrical connectivity. This set up allows you to connect a PL259 right to the antenna at the bracket feedpoint. The second option is not to use the bracket as part of the antenna system. Instead run your coax into the light well. Connect the shield only to the bracket screw (that has the previously mentioned 6ga ground wire) and run just the center conductor out to the antenna mount hole. Use a simple screw (usually 3/8X24) to attached the antenna to the mount. Obs you will need to use plastic (non conductive) washers to make sure that the antenna is electrically isolated from the mount. This is how you get your SWR <1.5. If I was going to make this mount better, I would not powder coat under the antenna mounting hole and screw holes, or offer a stainless (unpainted) version. I would include star washers for between the bracked and the truck body (these will bite through the pain for a better electrical connection). This is overall the best Tundra mount on the market. Thanks Rago

Tundra CB antenna mount

I actually installed both left and right antenna mounts for my chase lights. Easy to install. The fit and finish is great. Very clean way to install chase lights on your truck if you’re running a tonneau cover.

Great Engineering

Based on another review I purchased an antenna mount for the back of my truck that has a topper on it. It was a really good fit and does not interfere with the opening and closing of my tailgate or window. Superbly engineered.
