Cooking while camping can either be relaxing or a real pain in the @$$. Our camping trips are always a blast, and we cook SOOO MUCH. We grill everything, from our breakfast to our dinner. I’m no pro, but I know my way around a grill. We have experimented with many different outside cooking options like wood grills, charcoal grills, and gas grills. Our backyard grill is a 3 in 1 gas, charcoal, and griddle. But we were searching for something to take on our camping and off-road adventures. Ideally, purchasing something light weight and easily stored would be best. Finally, after looking over many different on-the-go grills we made the decision to indulge and purchase the Rago Grill and a Tembo Tusk Skottle. Having both the Rago grill and the Skottle while on our family adventures has made cooking outdoors that much easier. No matter which one we use, our food is always remarkable.
SET UP-
Rago Grill:
Let’s be honest, the Rago Grill takes longer to lay out the pieces then to actually put it together. All things considered; the assembly was a breeze. The first thing you’ll want to do is slide the side plates into the pre-cut slots on the X-plates. Next, you’ll place the coal feeder, “round end up” in between the X plates and side plates so it can properly keep your coals hot while cooking! Last step, insert the grill slats into the appropriate slots, and botta bing you’re ready to start seasoning your grill.
Skottle:
The Skottle also has a simple assembly. You’ll want to start by flipping the pan upside down to attach the stove bracket and the Kovea Scout Burner. Finish the assembly by adding the 3 aluminum legs. If you hear the stove rattling, use the bracket in place by loosening the eye bolt nuts that are included and gently squeeze the bracket. This puts pressure on the stove and allows you to retighten the eye bolt nuts. This will solve the rattle almost instantly. The skottle comes pre seasoned (oiled up) and ready for use. .
CLEAN UP-
Rago Grill:
Of course, you have to wait for it to be completely cool before cleaning up. You don’t want to burn yourself. Once the slots have cooled down, we typically use a wire brush to scrub off any left-over food. Then procced to break it down.
Skottle:
Wood and silicon tools are best for protecting the surface of the pan. They should easily scrape off any leftover food stuck on the cooking surface. If you’re looking to clean the pan, pour oil and a noble amount of rock or sea salt and scrub the pan vigorously with a paper towel. For the more stubborn clean-ups, you can heat water on the pan and let it soak.
STORAGE-
Skottle:
When I say TemboTusk thought of everything I mean it. After the skottle pan has cooled down completely, place the pan into the carry then place the legs in their own bag. Once they are all packed away, the legs slide into our decked system, and we place he pan right on top of the Decked system.
Bottom line-
When our family gets hungry we get hangry, and a snicker doesn’t do it for us. Having the perfect cooking options are very important while on trails, or even on family camping trips. Don’t change who you are because your hangry, cook yourself a little something on one of these 5 star grills!
